Every four years, I find myself captivated by the Winter Olympics. The stories of the athletes, their dedication, perseverance, and the years of sacrifice never fail to inspire me. But what always stands out is that no athlete gets to the world stage alone. Behind every Olympian is a team: family members, coaches, mentors, supporters, and friends who walk alongside them on their journey.
In many ways, this mirrors the experience of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) as they seek the right place to call home. No one begins that journey alone, either. The individuals who now call David’s House their home were surrounded by people who advocated for them, cared for them, and supported them through every step.
And the same is true for the work we do every single day at David’s House. Our mission is possible only because we have a team. If you’re reading this, you are undoubtedly part of that team in one way or another. Whether you’ve volunteered your time, offered your prayers, given financially, or simply shared our story with others, you’ve played a role.
We are blessed with many forms of support. Each year our two major events provide essential resources, but they’re just part of the picture. We have faithful friends who give monthly through online donations or by sending checks. Others have chosen to leave a legacy by listing David’s House in their will or estate plans. Businesses and churches generously give labor, prayer, and financial support as well.
All of this reminds me of a simple truth: no one succeeds alone. Every meaningful effort, every important mission, requires a team. And here at David’s House, we have a truly remarkable one.
Thank you for being part of it.
