Sharpening Our Focus

I’ve worn contact lenses for years, but recently they just weren’t working as well for me. By the end of the day, my eyes felt tired and sore, and more often than not I’d come home and swap them out for my old glasses. At some point, I had to admit what my kids already knew. The contacts weren’t failing… my eyes were just getting older.

Last week, I finally ordered new glasses. The difference was immediate. Everything felt clearer, sharper, and more focused. It reminded me that as things change, we sometimes need new tools — not because we were off course, but because clarity requires ongoing adjustment.

There are many things competing for our attention today: funding challenges, political tension, conflicts around the world, and uncertainty about the future. In a world that is constantly shifting, focus isn’t something we set once and forget. It’s something we continually sharpen so we don’t lose sight of what matters most.

At David’s House, our focus has always been clear and remains unchanged: Christ‑centered, high‑quality care for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, within a deeply engaged community. Over the past year, we have been intentional about sharpening that focus. This ensures the people we serve can continue to have a stable, life‑long place to call home. We’ve strengthened partnerships, advocated for needed change in our region, and regularly evaluated how we provide care. We ask how we can better support not only our residents, but also the staff who faithfully provide 24‑hour care each day.

Scripture reminds us, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). That steady focus guides us as we adapt, grow, and respond to a changing world. With clearer vision, trusted partners, and God’s faithfulness, we remain confident in the path forward.

As we approach the end of our fiscal year on March 31, we would be grateful for your prayers. Pray that we would finish the year strong and continue to steward well the resources God has entrusted to this ministry.

Thank you for walking alongside us, praying for David’s House, and helping us stay focused on what matters most.

Advocacy Alert

We Need Your Voice

Incompass Michigan, an advocacy partner with David’s House Ministries, is asking providers, families, and advocates to speak up about a growing funding gap that threatens services for people with disabilities. While the State has established higher wage expectations for direct care workers, the funding provided to support those wages falls short. At David’s House, we are meeting the State’s salary expectations for our staff while operating under a 5% Medicaid rate reduction implemented by Network180 last May. At the same time, many other counties have not yet implemented rate increases to help offset these costs, with Ottawa County being a notable exception. This imbalance places real strain on providers and, ultimately, on the people we serve. Lawmakers need to hear directly from those impacted. Please take a moment to contact your State Representative and Senator by clicking the button below and urge them to address this funding shortfall and protect access to critical services across Michigan.

3 Easy Ways to Give Through Your Will

David’s House Ministries donors often wonder how much of their estate to leave to ministry versus family. The answer depends on each person’s situation, goals, and values, but many families use one of three simple approaches.

Some people give a percentage of their estate, such as 10 percent, to David’s House Ministries and other Kingdom causes as an extension of tithing. Others use the “child named Charity” model, where their estate is divided into equal parts for each child plus one additional share for charity. Still others choose to give specific assets, like real estate, business interests, insurance, retirement funds, or collections, especially when those assets have special meaning, are no longer needed by children, or may create tax burdens.

To decide what is right for you, it can help to talk with a trusted planning ally. Through David’s House Ministries’ partnership with Barnabas Foundation, you can meet, at no cost, with a planner who will help you create a plan that honors God, cares for your family, and supports the ministries you love.
