This past Sunday afternoon, our David's House family gathered under the big tent for a special outdoor concert with our friend, Brandon Heath.
Now, I'll admit, the weather wasn't exactly cooperating. With temperatures climbing into the mid-80s, we knew we needed a plan to help everyone stay cool. Thankfully, we had the Bumblebee Ice Cream truck scheduled to stop by before the concert, and it was a big hit with residents, staff, families, and guests alike!

This was Brandon's third visit to David's House, and once again he blessed us with his music, stories, and encouragement. As I looked around the crowd, I was reminded that what makes events like this so special isn't just the music; it's the people gathered together.

One of the comments Brandon made during the afternoon really stuck with me. After traveling all over the country and visiting countless churches, organizations, and communities, he shared that he has never found a community that has impacted him as much as David's House. That was humbling to hear.

I've always appreciated the message behind Brandon's song Give Me Your Eyes. At its core, it's about slowing down long enough to really see the people around us and recognize their value. That's something we talk about often at David's House. When people are seen, known, and loved, community begins to flourish.

Community is more than sharing a home or attending an event together. It's about belonging. It's about friendships. It's about celebrating each other's gifts, supporting one another through challenges, and recognizing the value that God has placed in every person.

Sunday was a wonderful reminder of how blessed we are. We are grateful to Brandon Heath for spending part of his weekend with us, and we're grateful for the residents, staff, volunteers, donors, and friends who make David's House the kind of community that leaves a lasting impression.

Even on a hot summer afternoon under a tent, we were reminded that the greatest gift isn't the concert, it's the community we share together.

One of my favorite parts of my role is helping donors discover creative ways to support the ministries they love. 

Recently, I met with a couple of David’s House supporters who are enjoying retirement and making the most of it. Between stories of travel, grandchildren, and staying busy, I had the chance to ask, “Have you ever heard of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?” 

The answer was no. 

A few minutes later, they were smiling.  Why?  

Because they learned that if you're 70½ or older and have an IRA, you can give directly from your IRA to charities like David’s House without that gift counting as taxable income. In other words, more money for ministry, less for the government.  

Their response was something like, “Wait… I can support a cause I care about and potentially reduce my taxes?” 

Exactly!  

It's one of those rare opportunities that feels like everyone wins. You get to support causes close to your heart, make a lasting impact, and potentially enjoy some tax benefits along the way. 

So, if you'd rather see your IRA help change lives than help grow Uncle Sam's collection, a QCD might be worth a look! 

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is one of those rare opportunities that can benefit both the giver and the ministry. More of your resources can go toward changing lives and less may go toward taxes. 

Consider this your friendly tip from the Development Team at David’s House: if you have an IRA and are 70½ or older, it may be worth exploring whether a QCD is right for you.
