The Gift of Community

Over the past two months, our David’s House family has experienced both loss and gratitude.

We recently said goodbye to Becky, who called David’s House home for eight years, and Jay, one of our very first residents who lived in our community for an incredible 39 years. While every loss is difficult, it is also a reminder of what a privilege it is to share life together for so long.

David’s House has always been about more than providing services. It is about building a community where people belong. Over the years, we become part of our residents’ stories, and they become part of ours. We celebrate birthdays, holidays, milestones, and everyday moments together. We also develop meaningful relationships with parents, siblings, guardians, and extended family members who trust us to care for someone they love.

Last week was Direct Support Professional Week, and I could not help but think about the dedicated team members who walked alongside Becky and Jay throughout their lives. The work of a Direct Support Professional is not a typical job. Care is needed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are no snow days, no holiday closures, and no pauses when life gets difficult. Our team shows up every day with compassion, patience, and commitment.

As we remember Becky and Jay, I am reminded of Romans 12:15: "Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." For nearly four decades, that has been the heart of the David's House community. We celebrate life's blessings together, and we walk alongside one another through seasons of loss.
We are thankful for the lives that Becky and Jay lived, the families who allowed us to share in their journeys, and the dedicated staff members who cared for them so faithfully. David's House simply would not be David's House without the Direct Support Professionals who show up each day to provide care, encouragement, and companionship. Their commitment allows our residents not just to receive support, but to experience belonging, dignity, and community.

For that, I am deeply grateful.

New Tax Benefit for Charitable Giving

by Greg Vander Goot, Vice President

There is good news for supporters of David's House. Beginning in 2026, a new tax provision allows individuals who take the standard deduction to also deduct up to $1,000 in charitable cash gifts, or $2,000 for married couples filing jointly.

This means many donors who previously received no tax benefit for charitable giving may now qualify for one.

A monthly gift of just $84 (individual) or $167 (married couple) can help maximize this deduction while providing life-changing support for the individuals who call David's House home.

As always, you will receive a receipt for your charitable contributions. Because tax situations vary, we encourage you to seek professional tax advice regarding your gift.

Thank you for helping create a place of belonging, purpose, and care for every resident we serve.

David’s House Ministries is not a tax-advisor, nor do we pretend to be. Please consult your tax advisor regarding your specific tax situation.

Thank You for an Incredible Walk Ride Run

We are continually blessed by the incredible support of the David's House community. Thanks to the generosity of participants, donors, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters, this year's Walk Ride Run raised more than $170,000, surpassing our fundraising goal.

September 12 was a wonderful day filled with celebration, bringing together residents, families, friends, and community partners. Photo booth pictures are now available at dhmin.org/walk. Check back soon as we continue adding photos from this year's celebration.

Exciting Updates Coming to House One!

After more than 39 years, House One was ready for some much-needed updates. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the men who call this house home will soon enjoy a refreshed living room, kitchen, dining room, and laundry room.

We're also incredibly grateful for the businesses and individuals using their time, talents, and hard work to bring these spaces to life. Their dedication, combined with the support of our generous community, is helping create a more comfortable, welcoming home for the men we serve.

Thank you for making these exciting improvements possible!
