Celebrating Dean

After nearly fifteen years of service, David’s House recently celebrated the retirement of a beloved team member, Dean. Dean began his journey with our ministry in 2011, shortly after retiring from a 41-year career in the trucking industry. His connection started through his daughter, who worked at David’s House during college and invited him to volunteer transporting residents to Calvary Church. What began as helping out quickly grew into his role as a part-time Direct Support Professional.

Dean shared that a quote from Theodore Roosevelt displayed in House 1, “Nobody cares how much you know until they know that you care,” along with the book I Am in Here guided his work as a caregiver. These influences led Dean to pray by name for each resident before every shift, asking God for wisdom to understand and serve them well.

Throughout his years at David’s House, Dean remembers countless meaningful memories: leading residents on special outings, celebrating military ceremonies in Detroit, holding bonfires with friends from Calvary Church, resident led Bible Studies, and the simple things like the guys helping prepare Saturday morning breakfasts and homemade pizza night. In the big and small things, his kindness and dedication fostered deep friendships among residents, their families, and staff.

Dean shared that he is thankful God blessed him with the opportunity to participate in the ministry of David’s House and develop friendships with residents, staff and families.  He considers his years at David’s House “a unique blessing.” As he steps into his second retirement, we celebrate his faithful service, his compassionate heart, and the lasting impact he leaves on the David’s House community. Thank You Dean!
