Meet Karen – Resident Spotlight

December 2022, Karen

Karen has been a part of the All Pine Grandville Friendship Homes for the past 16 years. As of April 2022, the All Pine and Ivanrest Homes joined our David’s House Ministries family.

With 15 countries explored and 39 states visited, Karen is very well-traveled. She was even born in Liberia while her Dad was teaching Math at Cuttington University in the small town of Suacoco.

“I have always loved traveling and going to new places with my family,” Karen said.

Karen’s day-to-day life is a busy one. She has worked at Calvin University for 24 years in different cafeterias. She loves working in this college setting, especially because her Dad was a college professor at Calvin for 36 years, she has a sister who is a Librarian at Baylor University, and her late sister was a physics professor at Hope College.

Outside of work, Karen enjoys crafting, writing about her family’s history, attending Bible Study, playing her D.S., and hanging out with her roommates. She takes art and ballet classes at Arts in Motion and is very involved at her church, South Grandville Christian Reform Church. On weekends she even helps run a children’s program called Little Lambs.

“I love my roommates and the outings we go on together,” Karen said.

A fun fact about Karen is that she loves the Harry Potter series!
