Meet Bekki – Resident Spotlight

Bekki Spring 2022

Bekki moved into David’s House Ministries in November 2011. She started in House 2 and moved into Willow Tree Lodge when it opened.

Bekki was adopted when she was just three months old. She was raised by her mom and sister, who she loves very much. It was the answer to her prayers when Bekki moved to DHMIN. She immediately connected with the staff and loved the community. One of her best friends to this day is Life Enrichment Coordinator Lisa Glover.

She loves attending LEAP activities and appreciates the LEAP program for all the representation it gives the people who call DHMIN home.

“When we are out in the community, we are showing people that just because we have disabilities does not mean we can’t get out and do things,” Bekki said. “It is so professional, and I love the community integration.”

Bekki attends Noorthoek Academy in the Fall and Spring, loves to paint, and posts inspirational quotes on Facebook.

She loves volunteering and has worked at the YMCA, Head Start in Kent County, and Toys for Tots. In 2019 she collected 166 toys for Toys for Tots. To know Bekki is to be inspired to help others. She has a beautiful relationship with God and cares deeply for everyone she meets.

She also loves to travel and has been on a mission trip to Colorado. Her family loves to camp, and she says she is a camper at heart.

“Throw me outside with a blanket, and I am good to go,” Bekki said.

When Bekki is not giving back to her community, she is probably with her best friend, Lizzie. She and Lizzie have been friends for 30 years and now live together.

Bekki attends Fuller Avenu CRC Church and loves spending time with her Church family.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11

Bekki loves this verse because it reminds her of her love for her family.
